How to measure
Measure every wall run at floor level. Subtract widths of doors and openings with no baseboard. Enter the stock length of the board you will purchase and allow for miters, inside corners and joins.
Formula and assumptions
Boards = ceiling((perimeter − door openings) × (1 + cut allowance / 100) ÷ board length).
Worked example
For 60 linear ft, 5 ft of doors, 8 ft boards and 10% cuts, plan for 8 boards.

Corners, splices and the actual cutting plan affect waste. Measure each wall before ordering.
Are linear feet enough to order?
Linear footage is a starting point. Make a cutting list from available board lengths before purchasing.
